We crossed the Sound with light southerly winds and
3-4 foot seas. Leaving WW was a breeze as the seas and wind were
cooperating with us. As we entered the Eleuthera Banks, water was
skinny in places. But the charts were good and the light was good for
visual navigation. As we approached the harbour, we were a bit
surprised by the number of boats at anchor. Nevertheless we had no
problem finding an anchorage off of the Anglican church.

SV Barefootin' told of us of a fund raiser baseball game
at the local field on Saturday. We and several other cruisers
(including Phil and Nikki of Ajaya, Graham and Valerie of Bonnie Lass,
and Burry and Wendy of Sea Hawk) attended the festivities at the schools
ball field. The volunteers from the settlement offered barbecue chicken
and steak. We had steak.

One award winner came through us spectators
and showed us his awards. He was so proud! We were proud for him.
After the game, we strolled the 'beach' near the Anglican church looking
for shells. Bob found a pretty conch shell but it was really stinky.
Afterwards, we headed back to the boat. Tide was low so boarding the
dinghy was a bit of a challenge.

Saint Anne's is the local Catholic Church in Rock Sound.
Four years ago, we saw a vibrant Catholic school full of the local
kids. This time, the school is boarded up with little hope of it
opening again. The problem is blamed mostly on the local Eleuthera
economy which has shrunk over the last couple years. Church attendance
is down and the diocese can not provide a priest on many Sundays. We
had Deacon last Sunday. Sad.

Sammy Jane was sick again and she
was pee-ing all over the place. No permanent vets on the island, and
the closest is in Nassau. We went to Dingle Motors to find what options
were available. Chris said he would call his Auntie Phylis and ask her
opinion (she has 23 cats). The next day, we met Phylis Kemp at Sammy's
Restaurant where she suggested it could be a urinary tract infection.
She brought some medicine to cover her until we could get to Nassau.
Nice people in Rock Island.

We are leaving tomorrow but we wanted to say good bye to
the nice people at Sammy's Miss Jan has been working there with her
sister, Margarita. Both are great ladies chock full of local
knowledge. We will certainly miss this place. Fortunately it has not
been discovered by the hordes.
