9 Sep 2004, Southbound Cruisers' Reunion, 39 16.793 N/ 076 35.014 W

The 4th Southbound Cruisers Reunion was bigger and better than ever. Many old friends made the trip to Baltimore to attend. This was our third visit to the reunion, but the first by boat. Sadly, this may be the last reunion as the organizers (Bob and Donna aboard SV Island Way) can't do it next year and there is no heir apparent to follow their excellent work. We will stay in Baltimore for a while we ready the boat and continue to our ARC work with the benefit of the excellent Wi-Fi facilities.
There were all varieties of seminars and entertainment. Chris and Michael of SV Belami provided a great presentation on weather and Gulf Stream crossing techniques. Eileen Quinn sang to us and included several songs from her soon to be released 5th (Summer of '05) CD. Rosemary Lynch of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway Association gave us some good news on the maintenance of the ICW. Also, there were discussions on marine insurance, boat paints, and many other topics.

While Bob was working around the Vienna dirt dwelling, he experienced a pain. Undaunted, he continued. For three days, he worked and pained. Finally, Ann had the wisdom to call the doctor. Bob had the beginnings of a heart attack. Too many cigars (and probably too much cheap vodka) didn't help. He spent three days in the hospital, had the 'balloon' procedure, and is mostly all right. Gone are the days of cigars, vodka, anchovy pizza, fast food, and fun in general. Even sailing has to put aside for at least a month. We fear that our trip South must be delayed yet another year. Bob already is trying to talk Ann to cruise down to Wilmington NC, but who knows. Stay tuned.
