Thanksgiving is here and the Todd clan USA are here. Chris
and Christina had to leave on Friday morning to attend a mission meeting
in Charlotte NC. Sad but they were there for the feast. The four
grandkids get along great and here they appear to be planning their
mischief for the weekend. Hmmm.
We reinstated our pine cone burning tradition
where Boy Scout Collin (with help from Wolfgang) tended the kettle of
burning pine cones. We should have apologized to our neighbors as we
were generating a lot of smoke. We asked later and they said that they
did not notice our pollution. Everybody seemed to enjoy the pine cone
sacrifice.
We were fortunate that our Mona Black neighbors could
participate in our Thanksgiving celebration. We think they enjoyed our
kids and the Moony crew. We know that they enjoyed the food and drink
of the Thanksgiving meal. Of course we all (especially the grandkids)
miss Gina as this is the first Thanksgiving without her in 14 years.
Dishes are washed, the kids
are playing, the men are
sleepy, and the girls are charged with lots of coffee for their
Black Friday (now Thursday) heading out to do their obligatory
shopping. They are training Denise in the American way of pushing
and shoving that comes with the Black Friday event. The men wish
them luck, ask them to spend less (yeah, right), and then watch some
more TV. It is a tradition. Nobody knows why but it is.
Oh oh! The granddaughters have a plan
and we don't know what it is. Maybe they are sharing bowling tips as we
are about ready to head for the bowling alley. Maybe they are sharing
their attack philosophies. We are worried. They better do it quickly as
they will be heading home shortly. Regardless, a great Thanksgiving!
Where will we be next year?
A few late arriving cruisers
came through the area in
early December. SV Wild Cat was due to stop by and visit but could not
resist great wind and weather. So the Frank and Tini continued their
push southward towards an eventual landfall in Cuba. However, we were
there at Snow's Cut to wish them a safe trip. With the VHF close by and
hands waving, we wished them a Bon Voyage.
Less than two weeks later,
SV Endaxi with Bob and Sally stopped by for a visit before they
continued their trek south. Their rebuilt gear box was working great so
they were happy. After some shopping, we took them to see Mr. Obama.
He was still stiff and unresponsive. Almost like a cardboard figure.
That's probably for the best as the Endaxi crew are Tea Party-ers.
After a couple of days of
chatting and shopping, Bob and
Sally had to say good bye as they wanted to get to Brunswick Landing
well before Christmas. As they left Mona Black, we rushed to Snow's Cut
to wave them a farewell. Great weather for them so Brunswick is not far
away.
The week after Thanksgiving we had some
visitors; Capt Jaren, Mate Nancy, and thir granddaughter, Swab Brooklyn.
They drove up from Camp Lejeune to say hi and have a dinner together.
We had a great time swapping stories about our earlier voyage on the
MV NanSea D as well as enjoying a very well behaved swab. Great seeing
them again.
