14 Feb 2012, Tuesday in the Nizao region, 18 15.048 N/ 070 09.99 W

Today Jhonn and the gang drove us quite a way west along the coast to the town of Nizao. The countryside was green and full of fruits, vegetables, and pasture land. Once in a while, we would go through a small settlement. The morning distribution at sabana Patenque went flawlessly. Lots of music from Jhonn and Neftali, lots of smiles from los niņos, and smiles and tears from the team.
As our afternoon distribution is nearby, the local pastor invited us for lunch at the home of a local patron. Lots of stuff that Bob and Collin never saw before. Oh well, we are brave and the food is good. Afterwards, a few of us were roped into a pickup ball game with three kids (oldest maybe 8 years). The ball was a wiffle ball and the bat was an old 1"x1" board. Sadly, los niņos destroyed los gringos. We even cheated!
We left the ball game and headed for our second distribution of the day. We are getting quite proficient at these now. The 'box boys' get the boxes from Joselo and his team, unpack them, and the team distributes them. It s amazing how happy everyone is; no complaints, only smiles. When the distribution was completed, tyhe local pastor would come by and talk to us. Language was sometimes an issue but never the spirit.

We arrived at the Colegio Bautista in Manoguayabo in time to see a puppet show performed by some of the local teachers. It was actually quite good though we did not understand much of it. The distribution went flawlessly until Ann noticed that the mother of one of the students was crying. Jhonn explained to us that the boy has been praying for a baseball glove for months. When we looked at his box, we saw a new baseball glove and three balls. A miracle? We believe so.
Between distributions, Jhonn and his guys took our team to the OCC warehouse where there are lots and lots of cartons for the Dominican Republic. The OCC process is really an impressive example of a well thought-out logistics system. We wonder if other country operations work as well. The guys are proud of what they do and they should be.
Our last stop of the day is San Rafael, Arroyo, Hondo where we were greeted with the largest concentration of niņos we have seen, many more than originally estimated. Chris and Bob had a feeling; a feeling that we could run out of boxes. And we did. We were shy about 30 boxes. There were lots of team tears at the end of this distribution. However, Joselo and the team made good on their promise to provide boxes the next day. The kids were great!
