Of course the weather people lied; supposed to be SE, pushing us north;
now NNE at 15-20 kts making it very un-fun on the Bay. Bob's neck pain
is getting worse again and it is hurting a lot. Still the neck pain
is not as bad as the boating is good. Hope it stays that way. Anyways,
we overslept a bit but managed to leave Reedville at 0550. Lots of
light and apparently calm winds.
We waved bye to our distant friends
at Ingram Bay (and later we heard
that they waved back). We encountered a few crab pots as we entered the
shipping channel. By then, the wind was blowing N@15-20 kts with seas
frequently at 3 feet (at a period of less than 4 seconds). We freaked
out and decided to bail to Smith Creek in the Potomac River. After
several false starts (and a few favorable forecasts) we decided to try
to make Herrington Harbour. We had several backup plans but we were hoping.
We motorsailed and tacked up the Bay. We didn't make much progress but
it was a lot more comfortable than banging into the steep waves. Slowly
the wind and waves subsided as the wind veered to the SE. The sun was
setting as we tied up on the wall at M dock. Boat did great! Crew
wasn't too bad either.
The next day Lilli came by to
help us clean the boat. She was a big
help? She had no fear of the boat or the water. However, she was not
interested in the mundane job of cleaning and didn't want us to work
either; but we did.
Jule is now 'on the hard' awaiting an insurance survey to upgrade our
policy for distant waters. We are also going to have the fuel tank
cleaned, refresh the zincs, and touch up the bottom paint. We'll see
you in a couple of months on our way North.
