Wayne
adds the finishing touches on the teak deck. The planks were now
"glued" to the deck and the seams were filled with the
black caulking. It would not be too long before we would have to
put all of the hardware back on the deck. We would also have to
prepare the cabin top for the gel coat operation. This involved
the removal of all of the hardware (ports, winches, doodads,
etc.) from the cabin .
We
spent many weeks at the yard. We spent the nights in our land
vessel, a 1994 Turtle Top Ford conversion van. Levi (husky), Gina
(lab), and Sammantha Jane (cat) stayed with us. We mounted Jule
III's satellite dish atop the luggage rack. Can't be without our
TV. The van made our adventure much easier as we could have meals
there. We probably spent more than 21 days/nights in the van.
Ann's
niece (Karen) and her husband (Pete) were looking to buy a
sailboat They found a rather neat Hans Christian 33T at Kent
Narrows. We helped them survey the boat as we were now experts in
teak decks. The boat surveyed well for a 14 year old boat. They
bought the S/V Brass Ring and they asked Bob to help them sail it
back to our slip (you remember, the empty one). It was the first
time he sailed in over four months.
Thanksgiving
arrived and the boat was still in Buster's shop. We had the whole
Todd clan over for Thanksgiving dinner. This was the first time
in many years that we had the whole family together. Bob was
reminiscing on last Thanksgiving at Fernandina Beach. He needs to
get back on the water. He is getting weird. After the holiday,
the crew headed back to the boat yard. Jule III's deck was now
complete and we were preparing her for her trip to Osprey Marine
Composites for the coach roof job.
We
were anxious to have Jule III under cover but it was sad leaving
Phipps Boat Works. They had been so kind and considerate during
our stay there. Patient too. Bob can be quite the pain from time
to time but Team Phipps took him in stride. If only had done the
job for free, it would have been perfect. Oh well, off to Gary's
at Osprey. Thanks again Team Phipps!
