20 Jul 2016, Lunenburg via Port Mouton, 43 54.936 N/ 064 49.17 W

Left Shelburne at 0900 yesterday in fog (of course) with light winds out of the SW. So we used our usual northern passage configuration: jib, mizzen, and iron genny. We headed for the Carter Island anchorage in the bay of Port Mouton. Along the way we encountered a couple of sharks (we think). We arrived at the anchorage at 1645 and dropped the hook in 36 ft. of water where we saw sandy beaches and hard rocks.
Today we dinghy-ed to shore to walk the beach and look for shells. The rock outcroppings on the boundaries of the beach was really interesting. Over Budget accompanied us on the exploratory adventure. Ann was sad as there were no shells to be found. The beach is quite popular with the locals so the pickings were slim. Still, one of the prettier places we have anchored. Tomorrow, we head for Lunenburg, home of Blue Nose II.

25 Jul 2016, Lunenburg, 44 22.482 N/ 064 18.588 W

Arrived in Lunenburg at 1430 and picked a mooring from the Lunenburg Boat Locker. Doug ran the operation and he was very helpful on suggesting areas to visit. Lunenburg is both a tourist and working town. On a given day, one can see large steel fishing vessels arriving for repairs, dorys being built as they have for over a century, several tour boat operations including the replica of the Blue Nose fishing vessel. There are restaurants galore and most are crowded, especially during the weekend.
Of course, we had to check out the Catholic church, St. Norbert's. Very old and special church in the heart of Anglican and Lutheran land. They have a nice tradition of handing out lapel pins for visitors. The church is quite old with a lot of history. Fortunately, we had a rental car so we could get Ann up the hills.
Speaking of rental cars, we had one for nearly a week with Over Budget. We explored, Halifax, Peggy's Cove, and other points of interest. We decided not to sail up to Halifax as the mooring and marina facilities were expensive and not convenient for getting around. However, we wanted to visit the Bras d'Or Lakes so we decided to keep the car and explore Cape Breton area, using Lunenburg as our base. Once we complete the road tour, we will point Jule south for her long and slow voyage back to ILM.
