All systems have been checked: sails, engine, below waterline stuff, communications, power, and comfort things. These tasks take a lot longer than we thought. Moony and Jule III worked together and it was great! Friends of Moony and Dances with Dragons (MoonSail) arrived in HHN yesterday. They had a severely damaged rudder and came here for repairs. Unfortunately, they may have to spend a week or two here for repairs. Our friends Jim and Karen (Wanderer II) came by and said goodbye to Moony and gave them a Bon Voyage present. Hey! Where is our BV present?

15 Oct 2006, Day 1 - Solomons Island, 38 20.020 N/ 076 26.940 W

Finally ready to head south. Jule III awaited this day with Moony on K dock of HHN. Weather was not very cooperative so we had to stay a couple of days at HHN. Yesterday we got a good weather window and actually sailed from Herring Bay #1 to Cove Point. However, before we raised the sails, we 'calibrated' our new toys by running circles n the middle of the Bay. Jule III's new autopilot checked out just fine. However, Moony's digital compass did not fare so well. Maybe their circles were too fast.
We anchored in Mills Creek along with 12-15 other boats, many also heading South. The anchorage was quiet and peaceful. We chatted with Moony on the VHF, had cheese and crackers, and went to bed. Quite the exciting voyage. Our next stop should be Reedville where we will hide from some nasty weather on Tuesday and Wednesday. Jule III has not been there in many years. Should be fun. Hope it is not crowded.
