19 Oct 2006, Day 5: Deltaville, 37 32.716 N/ 076 19.890 W

The next day we were greeted with fog but not too much fog with a light SW wind. We left Smith Creek at 0715 where the fog continued to thicken. We were crossing the Potomac with visibility less than .5 nm. Moony was ahead of us and she would periodically appear and then disappear in the fog. As we neared Smith Point light, the fog lifted and the winds began to freshen, but still out of the SW. We continued to motor to Jackson Creek (Deltaville). As we turned to starboard on our last leg of the day, the seas calmed and the sun made an appearance. We entered Jackson Creek at 1625 with hooks finally down by 1700. The northern anchorage was congested and Jule III almost went aground. Jule III found plenty of water to anchor in the western branch of the creek. Moony decided to move near us when they discovered bad generator habits by a boat near them.

20 Oct 2006, Day 6: Weather Day at Deltaville, 37 32.724 N/ 076 19.892 W

Early to rise, we pulled out the dinghy and pumped it up and splashed it. Next, put motor on and tried to start it. Old gas and 6 months since its last use made for a slow painful start. But start it did. The crews of Moony and Jule III headed for Deltaville Marina. We filled up our diesel jerry cans and took them back to the boats. A little later we headed back to the marina and decided submit to the rather high facilities fee ($10/per person) so that we could use the marina's bicycles (and their toilets). The waves were building in the anchorage which led to more than one wet dinghy bottom. As promised, the winds were not nice; SW 15-20, gusting to 30 kts. That is why it was a weather day. During the day, one of our anchorage neighbors dragged anchor and went aground. His quick use of a kedge extricated him from his situation. Still, not the best situation to be in.
We picked out our bicycles from the marina's fleet. Ann took lead to town but the 15-20 knot winds were on our nose which made for slow progress. We stopped at Taylor's Restaurant where Bob had his favorite meal, meatloaf! It was good. Next we peddled to the Sandy Bottom market (they have neat tee shirts too) where Ann and Denise bought groceries. Where are we going to put all of this stuff. Next was a short stop at BoatUS where Wolfgang and Bob went to the 'toy' department. Fortunately, they did not buy any more toys. Next, a quick stop to the hardware store, and finally the return to the marina. We were tired but not too tired to have Moony over for pizza (new oven) and crab dip. Not bad! We decided to prepare the dinghies for the next day trip. We deflated our dinghy and packed it on deck. We are ready!
