We left Shipwright at 1045 after a great breakfast provided
by the staff and residents of the marina. They do this kind of stuff
all of the time. We noticed that the STW gauge was reading 0 knots.
That is not good! Bob installed a new paddle-wheel a few weeks ago.
Could that be the problem? Winds were light at NE@10 kts. We arrived
in the Rhode River at 1430 where we were the third boat to anchor. We
spent many good times here when the old classic SSCA conducted their
Annapolis Gams. Their Gam was never the same once they moved its
location after their 'reorganization'. We stayed for two days and had a
nice relaxing weekend.
It was cold and rainy as we left the Rhode River.
So far we have had more nasty days than nice. However, we had a nice
motor sail up to the main mooring field at Spa Creek in Annapolis. On
the way North, we pass Thomas Point light. We never get a very good
picture and the overcast skies certainly didn't help. Next time, we
will use the big Nikon.
We do not have many cold weather sailors around as the
field was nearly empty. We picked up mooring ball #9. The pennant was
not 'nasty' indicating that it was probably recently inspected or
replaced. It is not seem like Spring yet as we had to fire up the
diesel heater again. Several days were too windy to venture out on the
dingy.
However, we had two opportunities to head for land.
Once to get a bite to eat at the Iron Chicken followed by a trip to CVS
(pharmacy) to renew her medicine and a second trip for trash removal and
a second eat-out. Ann struggled with her back pain (bp) and her
shingles pain (sp) but she proved that she was a good trooper (co-captain).
The Inner Harbor is a beautiful place. Even so early in
the season, there is a bit of hustle and bustle that relaxes the mind.
The sailing schooners, the tour boats, the midshipmen in the boats, and
the occasional cruiser getting ready for a trip up north. BTW, we found
that the problem with the STW indicator was Captain's error. He put the
paddle-wheel in backwards. Bad Captain Bob.
