We left Solomon's at 0600 and turned Jule south to the
Great Wicomico River and up the Cockrell River to the marina at the
Crazy Crab. We contacted Charlie, the owner, to confirm our
reservation. Everything is good, except the weather will be
extraordinarily bad through the long Memorial Day weekend. We had come
here to get out of the heat. Ann was not up for a walk so Bob decided
to explore the town by himself, a mission that rarely takes longer than
30 minutes. We saw Dave again with his new boat, a beautiful one off of
a classic 38 fishing vessel. He came by our boat to afford us a good
look. Nice boat and nice guy.
On our third day (Saturday), we went to the Crazy Crab
which is
only several feet from the boat. Through the 'window', you can see the
two masts of Jule III and the buckets of rain falling outside. It would
rain from Friday night through Sunday evening. Time for boat projects,
several that we started while underway; testing out and integrating the
new Garmin plotter with Garmin's weather and sonar systems Picture in
the gallery shows the new toy at work with the weather subsystem. Not bad!
On Sunday we encountered a brief break in the weather so
we headed for the Reedville Market Restaurant where we had another great
meal.
The rain was kind enough to stop before we finished our meal. The walk
back was a little less painful for Ann as it was slightly downhill. A
perfect day except for the pain.
Tomorrow we again leave early and head back to Solomon's at Mill Creek.
We left the Crazy Crab at 0615 in chilly air, winds
S@10-15 kts, and strangely choppy seas. We were motorsailing with jib
and jigger (mizzen) and making good time to the Mill Creek at Solomon's
Island. Bob was not feeling very well so he was forced to take a nap.
We have this really nice anchorage up the creek with a beautiful home on
one side, a small marina on the other side and a near perfect bottom.
Of special interest to us is the osprey nest which has been pretty busy
every time we anchored there in the spring...except last spring where
the was no nest. We are hoping it will be occupied this year.
We arrived at our anchorage at 1500 with only one other boat anchored
about .25 miles from us. Temperature was in the low 80's and a predicted
low of 65. Not bad. And yes, there was a nest with an osprey inside.
In didn't appear that there were any kids yet. We don't think it was
the same family that was there in 2019 but maybe it is. Nevertheless,
it is good to see that we got ospreys again.
