We left our osprey friends at 0900 with a chilly wind
growing to 10-15+ knots out of the South. We also had a favorable
current all of the way to our slip (good and bad). We passed the LNG
terminal at 1045 where the was a large tanker that was loading cargo.
Scary. We always wondered why they would have two facilities (terminal
and nuclear power plant) within a few miles of each other.
As we entered Herring Bay, the wind was blowing SE@15-20 kts. Our SOG
was often over 8 kts. We were getting worried. Will we able to slow
the boat down to 1.5 kts while making a right hand turn into the slip?
Not sure. What is plan B? Pass our slip, make a 180 turn and crab
into the slip with wind and current against us. What did we do?

We tried to to slow the boat down to 1.5 kts over ground when
we were less than 200 yards from the turn. We couldn't do it. As the
SOG dropped below 1.5 knots, the STW dropped to 0 and we lost steerage.
So we implemented Plan B, passed our slip, made our U-turn and slowly made the left hand
turn into the slip without incident. We are happy.
We cleaned the boat, got the rigging fixed, hauled the dinghy, and
started preparing the boat for its summer hiatus. Company came to come
say hi. Chris brought Logan for his first time on Jule III. He seemed
to like the boat. Maybe another swab?
