Santa
Claus brought us a belated Christmas present. He realized that TV
reception was really lousy at the Port. So he brought us a
DirecTV system. Included in the present was something called
FollowMe TV. FollowMe TV allows us to watch satellite TV even
while at anchor. Pretty cool! The only problem that remained was
that our TV was too small. Santa wouldn't upgrade it, so we had
to do that ourselves (10.5 inch flat panel).
Capt.
Bob found little time for leisure with all of his boat chores and
business responsibilities (yeah, right!). Cape Marina was quite
relaxing and we enjoyed our time there. Our plans indicated a one
month layover, but the weather was so malevolent that it would be
two months before we could leave. Our plans had us on the
'outside' from Fort Pierce to Key West so we needed a good
weather window. The largest window we had in December/January was
about 24 hours.
In
preparation for our departure, we had to get 3 months of growth
off Jule III's bottom. We didn't want to go through the hassle of
a haul-out, so we asked Mike (one of the senior guys at Cape
Marina) if he could clean the bottom. A few days later, Mike was
scraping all of the marine life off. What a mess! Good thing we
did as our prop and depth transducer were loosing the battle with
the worms.
On
our last day at Cape Marina, we said goodbye to all our new
friends. As Levi and Gina had already gone home, we had to say
goodbye to their friends. Coby was one of their particular
favorites. Coby owned an Endeavor 41 along with his crew. Coby
joined up when their other dog, Bear, died unexpectedly. Coby was
one the few dogs at the marina. There were lots of stray cats.
Many of the boat owners would feed and 'fix' the strays. Really a
friendly bunch.
